Sky: Children of the Light is a social adventure MMO from thatgamecompany, the American studio behind Journey and Flower, running on Android at version 0.33.2 after its first mobile release in July 2019. There is no combat and no health bar. You play a Child of the Light gliding across seven hand-animated realms, freeing trapped spirits, returning fallen stars to their constellations, and meeting strangers you can only talk to through emotes until you spend candles to unlock chat. How flight works and how to push your Winged Light higher

Your flight ceiling in Sky is set by one number: how many Winged Light you have collected, which raises your cape level and the size of your energy meter. This is the single most-searched mechanic in the game, and it confuses new players because flying is not unlimited by default.

Flight runs on cape energy. When you take off, the glowing wings on your cape drain a meter, and once it empties you drop out of the air. You recharge by touching any light source: lit candles, other lit players, plants, or glowing creatures. Sky has no coins and no gems. Everything you wear, every Spirit friendship node, and every chat unlock runs on a small family of candle-based currencies, and mixing them up is the fastest way to waste a week of grinding.

  • Regular (white) Candles: the everyday currency. You gather Light wax from glowing pickups and around lit creatures, then forge it into candles at a flame. As of update 33.0, basic Shared Spaces, Shared Memories, and Message Boats each cost one regular candle, so this is your most-spent resource.
  • Hearts: the social currency. You earn them when a friend gifts you one, or by spending three candles to give one. Hearts unlock the deeper, friendship-locked nodes on a Spirit’s relationship tree, including capes, masks, and emotes.
  • Ascended Candles: the premium-feeling, time-gated currency earned by completing an Eye of Eden run. These buy the most expensive permanent cosmetics, which is why players organize community Eden runs for the haul.
  • Season Candles and Seasonal Hearts: currencies tied to the active Season. You earn Season Candles from daily quests and the Season Pass, then spend them and Seasonal Hearts on that Season’s Spirits before the event ends.

That is where Traveling Spirits come in. Roughly every two weeks, a past Seasonal Spirit returns for a few days and sets up in the hub, giving players who missed the original Season a second chance to buy its emote, hair, mask, or cape.   • The Wandering Carnival: a new Seasonal area docked at Aviary Village, reached by meditating on the small tender boat next to the Isle of Dawn portal. Any player who has reached Aviary Village can enter.
  • Shared Space Challenges: the Season’s core feature. After finishing each Carnival quest, you unlock Props to build your own obstacle courses and trials inside Shared Spaces. Completing another player’s challenge grants Pieces of Light scaled to how complex the build is.
  • Presence (limited beta): a multiplayer discovery feature that reveals nearby players around you. It unlocks after Hidden Forest, replaces the Buddy Request button in the Wing Menu, and in this update is limited to Aviary Village for a randomly selected group of players while servers are monitored.
  • Candle cost change: basic Shared Spaces, Shared Memories, and Message Boats now each cost one regular candle, a deliberate sink for the everyday currency.
  • Quality-of-life fixes: Candle Light now visually scales with the size of the wax pickup, Candle Wax was added to the Hermit Valley Slide race, Multiplayer Shared Memories and AR Camera improvements landed, and Gondolas in Valley of Triumph no longer skip while floating.
